Here's one way to deal with those ugly poles! We carefully polished the steel, then gave it a gleaming finish with 12 coats of clear lacquer. This bar was built to double as a work space, with wall-mounted storage for the homeowner's hobby materials. Concrete fish was sculpted to match the bar top. Honeowner is an avid fly fisherman.

Stair railing was custom built from solid maple, with a hand-rubbed oil finish. It wraps around the steel support column, which was polished and finished with 12 coats of clear laquer. This wall-mounted storage unit was built to accomodate the owner's hobby of tying fishing flies. 38 drawers of different sizes keep the space free of clutter. Consider it a contemporary version of a roll-top desk. Storage unit is built of natural birch, with the drawer fronts finished in hand-rubbed tung oil to match the extensive birch accents found elsewhere in the room.

Widescreen HDTV was built into the wall. It rests on a heavy-duty drawer that can be pulled out to allow access to the wiring. Drawer is disguised by decorative birch panels.
