Spring Creek Design handled every aspect of this stunning basement project - from initial planning to completion, right down to the last throw pillow. It is a small basement - measuring just 17 x 25', a total of just 425 square feet. Good design work, coupled with the extensive use of built-in furniture and storage units, enabled us to get the most out of this compact basement. The heart of the project is a home theater system, featuring custom built-in leather seating, built-in HDTV, built-in book cases, wall mounted and recessed speakers and more. In addition, the basement holds a 10' bar, a second 5' bar with  built-in beermeister and wine storage, a hobby/craft area and a kids play area. All of this is carefully accented with 5 circuits of dimmable recessed and track lighting. Bar tops are solid concrete, hand cast in place. Built-in furniture was covered in leather by our Amish upholsterer. Extensive use of natural birch and maple, coupled with Pergo flooring and a dramatic chocolate-and-peanut butter paint scheme, makes this space warm and spectacular.

Long bar provides seating directly behind the couch, facing the TV. Perfect for having friends over to watch the game. The bar was finished with birch panels to echo the accent panels on the TV wall. This view also gives a glimpse of how the seating area and bar were built together as a single unit. Recessed and track lighting was used extensively throughout the project. Each set of lights is on a separate dimmable circuit to allow the mood to be controlled.

Hand cast concrete was textured, colored and polished to resemble the leather used in the home theater seating area. River pebbles, polished steel, dyed concrete, earthy paints all combine to create a wonderful warmth and richness. Custom built-in couch, upholstered in leather, was built on-site. It includes a "tactile transducer" (kind of like a speaker for your butt) that ties the seating in to the home theater.

Leather cushions were sewn by our Amish upholsterer. 10-foot long bar overlooks the couch, providing overflow seating that faces the TV screen - perfect when friends are over for the big game. Couch frame was made of birch, covered with leather cushions sewn by our Amish upholsterer.

River pebble canvas contributes to the subtle river/water theme that was designed to compliment the owner's love of fly fishing. Note surround-sound speaker discretely mounted on wall to the right. Concrete ledge behind custom built-in couch serves as a kind of coffee table for drinks, snack and remotes. Large drawers were built in to maximize the storage under the stairs. They serve as toy boxes for the kids. This makes it easy to quickly clear the space. Note the built-in cat box enclosure. Good design can use every inch of available space.

The space was designed with a nod to the homeowner's love of fishing, including this hand scuplted concrete fish, fabricated from the same material as the bar tops.
