The use of wood, bold earthy colors and stained glass were typical of the Arts and Crafts style. This stairway was enclosed, with a door at the bottom, when we began. We opened the stairway to increase the feeling of spaciousness in the dining room. A mission-style pendant lamp was chosen for the dining room. The Mission style was closely allied with the Arts and Crafts movement.

Custom crown moulding was made for the dining room. Its shape was made to be consistent with the geometric designs favored by Arts and Crafts and Mission style designers. Solid, tongue and groove wood was used on one wall of the dining room. The use of wood as a wall material was common to the Arts and Crafts style. Many elements of the Arts and Crafts style were used in the dining room, such as the extensive use of natural wood and dramatic earthtones.

Rich, highly figured oak dining table was chosen to compliment the oak floors and terra cotta walls. The old oak floors, once covered with carpet and heavily damaged by time and abuse, were carefully restored to their original beauty. living room colors are classic Arts and Crafts, chosen to tie together with the dining room colors in the background.

handmade mission table lamp was found at a flea market and restored. Its simple geometric design is a good fit in this Arts and Crafts home.
