Low ceiling prevented us from using a conventional drop ceiling. Instead, we painted the woodwork a dark chocolate and installed spot lights between the joists. Ventless gas fireplace was installed on a brick and tile hearth. Floating soffit was built above the bar. It serves to visually define the space, and provides a mounting surface for the recessed halogen lights. Bar base was built of birch and trimmed with solid mahogany.

Concrete bar top was poured in place, then distressed to a multi-hued brown and tan finish. Behind the bar, we crafted a built-in lighted display case, including space for an LCD flat-panel TV. View from bar into the Billiards area.
